The 49th Annual Monctonian Bonspiel ran in all Moncton Curling clubs from November 13 to 16, 2008.  Make sure you enter the 50th Annual Monctonian Curling Bonspiel to be held from November 12 - 15, 2009.  Make your reservations now for the big one.

Hap Mabey's Team has won it twice.  In 1972 he had on his team: Mate Jim Cole, Second Harold Keith, and Lead Grant MacMellon.  In 1976 he had on his team: Mate Peter Porter, Harold Keith, and Leo Arsenault.

Peter Porter in the late 70's had his team curl with a headset that enables the team members to hear and speak to each other. The officals did not approve of this method of curling as they though Peter's team had an unfair advantage.  Hence, Peter had to drop his great idea.  However, there is nothing to stop teams from using headsets while practicing.  Everyone on the team would know exactly what they were trying to do and why it worked and why it did not work.  For a while I used a number system for the 15 shots I called in a game.  It worked ok.  However, I never tried it outside of our club.  I just pointed to a number on the scoreboard and the person taking the shot refered to a list of shots taped to his broom.  We had to practice until we could make each shot.
Furliners games will start at 1:30 PM each Wednesday unless adviced by Horace Constable of any change.  His e-mail address is hconstab@nb.sympatico.ca

Awesome Curling at MCA!
The Men's League players curl at 7 - 9 PM almost every Monday and Thursday evenings.  On Monday and Thursday nights they play the 4-rock rule to coincide with the World Curling Association.
The Furliners are expecting to have another excellent year.  The Furliners were first organized in 1990 with two sheets of ice being used.  They now curl almost every Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30 PM.  Coffee, tea and hot chocolate at 50 cents each are offered after curling.  The proceeds of sales are turned over to the club.  They have also used their 50/50 draw to help defray some of the repairs to the club.  This season will run from November to March.  The coordinator for the Furliners is Horace Constable (386-8561).  They also play in home/away games with Truro, River Hebert, Rexton, Sackville, Fundy, Amherst, Beaver and other clubs.
Listening is the most important thing you can do for good communication.  Most people are thinking so much about what they are going to say that they forget to listen completely to the speaker.

The following is a list of do's and don't for good listening:

Don't stereotype the speaker because of age, sex, economic class, mannerisms, race, religion or sexual preference.

Don't express boredom, embarrassment or be threatened by what the speaker is saying.

Don't constantly drift off into a remote association with what the speaker is saying.

Look for feelings as well as facts.

Don't read too much into what is being said, ignoring plain facts and clear words.

Don't constantly rehearse witty and profound responses before the speaker is finished speaking.

Don't react automatically, unthinkingly and predictably over sensitive issues.

Don't jump in with a quick fix when you think you understand what the speaker is saying.  Always allow them to finish.

Give the speaker your full attention.

Let the speaker know you are listening by your body language.
